The difference between a Bikini and Brazilian wax is the amount of hair removed. With a Bikini wax, your esthetician removes the hair on the sides of your pubic region—this is the hair that peeks out of your underwear or swimsuit. A full Bikini wax removes more hair at the sides and top of your bikini line, depending on your preferences. For example, a landing strip—where your pubic hair is trimmed into a vertical line only—is one type of full Bikini wax.

How to prepare for a Bikini or Brazilian wax
Whatever style you choose, make sure your pubic hair is at least a quarter of an inch to half an inch long when it’s time for your waxing appointment at the spa or salon. If your hair is too long, you should arrive at your appointment with your hair trimmed. Most estheticians will assist with your trimming, however there may be an additional fee.
Before your session, wash your delicate areas with warm water and pat dry. Don’t apply any moisturizer as that may decrease the effectiveness of the wax. Skin is more sensitive before and after your menstrual period so avoid getting waxed in the days before, during, and after your period. Use a gentle exfoliator the day before your session to remove dead skin and help prevent ingrown hairs. Sun exposure or tanning beds is not recommended 48 hours prior to treatment.
Some women feel nervous or awkward during a Bikini or Brazilian wax because it’s quite a personal treatment. This is completely normal—just remember that your esthetician is a professional, trained to put you at ease during your treatment.
How to take care of your skin after a Bikini or Brazilian wax
After waxing, your skin is more sensitive than usual, but it gets back to normal in a day or two. To take care of your skin after waxing, avoid wearing tight clothes, using perfumed soap, taking a bath, or getting all sweaty with exercise. It’s fine to take a shower but if the water is too hot, it might irritate your skin. To reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs, gently exfoliate a few days after your waxing treatment. Finally, avoid sex for 24-48 hours after any waxing “below the belt,” particularly a Bikini or Brazilian wax as it can cause discomfort.
