I am taking the liberty to explain to all of you some tips on how to optimize your massage experience.
There have been numerous cases in my career, as an RMT, where I have treated clients who are unsure on how to receive the treatment. If you are unsure about the type of treatment that would be the most beneficial for you, do not hesitate to have that conversation with your therapist before the session starts. It is always a good idea to visit the restroom beforehand. It is important that you are comfortable with your therapist. Don’t be afraid to stop the treatment at any time, even before it begins.
Remember, your massage therapist is just like your mechanic or your hairdresser. You will always benefit more from one that you can trust.
If you’re receiving a full body treatment, try to appreciate that working around any clothing that you leave on may hinder the treatment. You can remove all of your clothing, don’t worry, it’s appropriate. If you are uncomfortable lying in certain positions or uncomfortable having certain areas treated, always inform your therapist before the massage begins or even during the massage.
It is fine to talk throughout your treatment, however be aware that if you do, your mind is not going to be as relaxed and therefore your body won’t be either. I recommend concentrating on your breathing.
When your therapist is draping the sheets, try not to assist in lifting your arms, legs, or head. Despite your best intentions, this creates more obstacles for your therapist. In order to optimize your treatment, it should have an even flow from beginning to end.
You should understand that the massage experience is for you and for you only.
