Spring Skin Care – Revealing the Glow! Over the winter, our skin tends to get dehydrated from spending so much time indoors in dry, heated air. In addition, a lot of dead skin cells build up on the surface or flake off. That’s why the two biggest priorities of spring skin care are hydration and exfoliation.

Step One: Hydrate to replenish your skin’s moisture levels

Drinking water and eating hydrating foods  is an important start, but there are also hydrating treatments we can apply directly to the skin. A high-quality moisturizer is key, and ideally you’ll be using one all winter to keep its damaging effects at bay.

When spring arrives, give your skin an extra boost with a hydrating mask. Unlike clay masks that draw out impurities and dry up the skin, hydrating masks – cream- or gel-based – increase moisture in the skin.

Hyaluronic acid, a key ingredient in hydrating skin care products, helps to lock in moisture. In fact, one gram of hyaluronic acid can hold six litres of water. It also contains antioxidants and vitamins that fight against free radicals and repair winter’s damage to the skin.

Step Two: Uncover your spring glow

Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells and flakes that sit on the skin’s surface. This helps  increase cellular regeneration, revealing a radiant, clear complexion. Exfoliating also helps your skin care products penetrate better.

Aside from the exfoliating products and techniques you can use at home, you can treat yourself to a professional facial with a certified aesthetician. They will assess your skin’s condition, texture and type, to see which type of exfoliating treatment you are a candidate for, such as:

  • Microdermabrasion – this is a mechanical exfoliation treatment that resurfaces the skin to reveal a brighter overall youthful glow, removes dead skin cells, and helps increase cellular regeneration. This treatment also includes a facial massage, mask, and all other aspects of a regular facial.
  • Collagen facial – a collagen facial includes a peel, which is a chemical exfoliation. It essentially does the same thing as a mechanical exfoliation. This treatment also includes a collagen mask, which is lifting and hydrating for the skin.

As you shed your outer layers and pack away your heavier clothes, be sure to clear away what winter has left on your skin.
